Job Description

We're looking for a Web Developer who's genuinely comfortable with the fundamentals — HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript — and wants to build a career on strong core web skills rather than jumping straight to framework work. This is a long-term role with a creative, fast-paced company that helps students and teachers tell stories visually. UI changes on this platform happen through Razor views (C# / ASP.NET MVC) and direct JavaScript/DOM manipulation.

You'll join a small, collaborative team, learn an established codebase, and grow your skills by working hands-on with real users and real problems, rather than abstracted through a framework.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain features using HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript.
• Make UI updates through Razor views and direct DOM manipulation.
• Incrementally improve and maintain an existing, established web platform.
• Troubleshoot usability, layout, and performance issues as they come up.
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders in the U.S. to understand needs and ship changes.
• Write clean, well-tested code and grow your fundamentals over time.

First 6 Months

• Get comfortable with the codebase and Razor-based page structure.
• Improve HTML page speed and responsiveness across the site.
• Help bring older pages in line with current layout standards.
• Build confidence debugging and shipping changes independently, in a standard IDE (e.g., Visual Studio Code).

Qualifications

• Solid, hands-on understanding of HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript (DOM manipulation). This is the core, day-to-day skill for the role.
• Comfortable building, running, and debugging code in a standard IDE (e.g., Visual Studio Code).
• Ability to explain how and why the code you work with does what it does, whether you or an AI assistant wrote it. AI is part of our workflow, but understanding is non-negotiable.
• English proficiency (written and spoken) to work effectively with a U.S.-based team.
• Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn.

Bonus Qualifications

• Familiarity with C#, Visual Studio, and ASP.NET MVC / Razor.
• Experience with site speed/performance optimization.

Note on interview process: Candidates will complete a short, unassisted HTML/CSS/vanilla JS coding exercise as part of screening.
