About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Developer to join our innovative team at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory. This role involves designing, developing, and deploying advanced software solutions that support enterprise AI systems critical to national security operations. The successful candidate will focus on building AI-enabled applications, autonomous agents, and integration components that enhance decision-making, automation, and operational efficiency within mission-critical environments. Collaborating closely with product owners, data scientists, cybersecurity professionals, and cloud engineering teams, the Senior Software Developer will play a pivotal role in advancing our organization’s technological capabilities while ensuring the highest standards of security, reliability, and performance.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of six years of relevant experience. A master’s degree combined with at least four years of experience is also acceptable. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C#, Java, or TypeScript, and have experience integrating AI/ML systems, including large language models, agent frameworks, and cloud AI services. Familiarity with event-driven architectures, microservices, containerization, and CI/CD pipelines is essential. Experience working within secure, highly regulated, or mission-critical environments, along with knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or OCI, is highly desirable. Responsibilities

The Senior Software Developer will be responsible for leading the design and development of AI-powered applications and tools aligned with enterprise strategies. This includes building, testing, and deploying scalable backend and frontend components using modern software engineering practices. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to define requirements, establish architecture patterns, and facilitate technical integrations. Maintaining software quality through automated testing, code reviews, documentation, and performance monitoring is essential to ensure robust solutions. The developer will also integrate AI/ML models, cloud-native services, and workflow automation platforms into operational systems, troubleshooting and resolving software defects, performance issues, and integration challenges as they arise. Producing clear technical specifications, diagrams, and user documentation is a key part of maintaining clarity and consistency across projects. Ensuring compliance with security, data governance, and reliability standards is paramount. Additionally, mentoring junior developers and contributing to the development of team technical standards and best practices will be expected.
