The company’s success is underscored by its ability to outperform established defense primes and secure follow-on projects, demonstrating its leadership and expertise in the field. Led by a team of seasoned engineers and operators from the intelligence community, special operations, and frontier AI research, Lumbra combines deep domain knowledge with cutting-edge technological innovation. The team members hold degrees from prestigious institutions like MIT, Carnegie Mellon, and West Point, and have careers spanning Palantir, Anduril, Northrop Grumman, NSA, CIA, and JSOC. Lumbra’s mission is to build resilient, secure, and intelligent systems that empower decision-makers in critical environments.
About The Role
We are seeking a talented full-stack engineer to join our dynamic team at Lumbra Incorporated, focusing on our Nebula platform. Nebula revolutionizes the analytical process by transforming days of manual synthesis into minutes of insightful analysis, leveraging AI tooling directly accessible to analysts. As a full-stack engineer, you will be responsible for developing and owning features across the entire technology stack, including Pythonbackend services and React-based frontend interfaces. Your work will directly impact the efficiency and effectiveness of intelligence analysis, enabling analysts to harness AI capabilities seamlessly. You will collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams to design scalable, reliable, and user-friendly features that facilitate agent configuration, workflow orchestration, and knowledge graph exploration. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI systems in a high-consequence environment, contributing to solutions that are deployed into classified spaces and operationalized for national security.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should have a proven track record of shipping production-quality code in Python, particularly with asynchronous programming, relational modeling, and layered service architectures. Experience with React and TypeScript in a production environment is essential, along with a strong understanding of data flow from database schemas to user interface states. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to writing clean, well-tested, and maintainable code, working in a test-first manner. Familiarity with distributed systems, performance profiling, and debugging across service boundaries is highly desirable. Knowledge of AI systems, especially agentic AI, LLM APIs, or knowledge representation techniques like graph databases and vector search, is preferred. Additional qualifications include experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP or similar), identity management protocols such as OAuth2/OIDC, and contributions to open-source developer tooling. Candidates with backgrounds in intelligence analysis, OSINT, or analytical workflows that inform product development will have an advantage.
Responsibilities
As a key member of the engineering team, your responsibilities will include designing and implementing FastAPI endpoints backed by PostgreSQL and SQLAlchemy to manage agent configuration, workflow orchestration, and evaluation pipelines. You will develop interactive React and TypeScript features such as conversation interfaces, workflow visualization tools, and knowledge graph explorers. Building durable and scalable workflow orchestration systems for long-running agent execution, including delegation, monitoring, and timeout management, will be central to your role. You will own features across the full stack, from database schema migrations to API contracts and UI state management, ensuring a seamless user experience. Writing clear, contract-driven tests for both backend and frontend components to verify specifications rather than implementation details is essential. You will also design testing strategies for non-deterministic AI components, including metamorphic testing, property-based testing, and regression suites to monitor capability retention. Contributing to the Python and TypeScript client SDKs to enhance programmatic access and performance tuning across the stack, including API latency optimization and query efficiency, will be part of your scope. Debugging across service boundaries using local environments and distributed tracing tools to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently will also be expected.
